my 1st suturing

today i attended my 1st suturing on a live patient with success. 3 sutures with prior anaesthetic.

hx- pt presented with a cut on the back of left hand caused by a cotton cutter

o/e- 2.5 cm laceration on the dorsum of the left hand over the 2nd & 3rd metacarpal joints. muscle layers intact with no superficial tendons exposed. capillary refill more than 2s, sensation intact, power is reasonable at the DIP/PIP joints.

mx- a sterile prep is performed, wound cleaned with chlorhexidine. local anaesthetic (ligno/adrenaline) injected around wound site. 3 prolene sutures were applied with close apposition of wound (remember technique 3 outs, 2 ins, 1 out :)). sutures due for removal in 7 days. tetanus injection given.

on the same day, take my 1st bloods, did my 1st ECG, observe 1st indwelling catheter & cannulation. viewed a fantastic Dr.ABC video. i love rural just on the 2nd day. credit to the teaching drs.
