to be a satisfactory 2nd year med student, you need to be able to establish clinical reasoning- approach, assess & manage the following conditions:
dermatology, immunology:
- anaphylaxis, skin lesions, rashes, lymphadenopathy, fever of unknown origin & of recent-returned traveller
cardiovascular, respiratory:
- acute onset of chest pain, shortness of breath, arrhythmias, DVT, hemoptysis, chronic respiratory disease
gastrointestinal:
- diarrhoea, acute abdominal pain, jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, hematemesis
psychiatry:
- drug abuse, depression, anxiety, panic attack, schizophrenia
neurology:
- an unconscious patient, acute or chronic headache, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, meningitis
renal:
- anuria or oliguria, hematuria, chronic kidney disease
musculoskeletal:
- bone fractures, Ca, joint hematoma, arthritis
reproduction:
- infertility, lump in the genital area (male), abnormal uterine bleeding (female), amenorrhea
endocrine:
- thyroid disease, Cushing's disease, diabetes mellitus
2nd year med is the most challenging. least for me so far. i guess not only in the aspects of studying but also in terms of dealing with your fellow colleagues, coaching drs & the school. if i were to get thru this year, i can say its a miracle. the fact is.. y life can be so slow.. the whole 1 year course ends up in an exam in a month's time.
personally, i've gone thru a bit- this year. i feel for it. things.. smetmes u never knew y or how. the world is complicated.. all i wish is just to finish this, go back home & just wish for the best.. u never knew wt things are ter in the future. u can only try to live ur best at present.
