Dear Keith,
Even though it is 1.30am and I am tired from working over 18 hours straight, I wanted to take a few moments to let you know how pleased that I am that you have now renewed your lease for the third time. Luca is really lucky to have a flatmate like you. However she didn’t need me to tell her that. She assessed the quality of your character quickly for herself and made up her own mind.
On 1st April this year, you will hold the record for being the longest standing single tenant in a share house of mine. I have had lots of students in the houses at 20 Carmody Road and 60 Bishop Street who stayed for two years, but none who managed to stay the third year, probably because most of them were doing courses at Uni which were not as long or as demanding as yours.
Back in 1974 when I bought my first house in Cairns, I actually had a tenant rent a house from me for 5 years. When I was ready to sell it, I told the family that they would do very well financially if they bought the house from me. They told me that they never thought that they could own their own home even in a million years, so I showed them how it was done. They bought the house from me. The following year, prices of houses in Cairns went through the roof, and the family made a small fortune with their newly acquired asset.
I was very happy for them as they were a struggling financially before that with two young children to feed and clothe. I had nothing to lose. They had already paid my house off in the past 5 years. I put the money into buying a Motel. I also did very well with my new commercial investment.
Well I am off to bed now Keith so I can sleep for 4 hours before I start my next 18 hours stint.
Best Wishes,
Janet
